Born in Burnley, Lancashire, this year’s guest presenter of the Lancashire Tourism Awards 2017 is journalist and broadcaster Tony Livesey. Tony will introduce the awards ceremony and 106 finalists, before presenting 22 awards that celebrate this year’s best in class at The Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Thursday 9 November.

Tony is ‘chuffed’ to be invited to present this year’s awards and said “I’ve made no secret on TV and radio that I love Lancashire and all it has to offer. I’ve spent my life on days out and holidays all over the place. I doubt there’s an acre of the county that I’ve not sat on in my shorts. Congratulations and best of luck to all the finalists and I’ll see you in Blackpool on 9th November.”

Tony Livesey began his career on the Nelson Leader and the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, before spending 18 years with Sports Newspapers, where he was editor-in-chief and managing director of the Daily Sport and Sunday Sport newspapers. He became a regular on TV’s What The Papers Say and appeared on Have I Got News For You and Never Mind The Buzzcocks. He also presented the Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Lancashire and his late-night show on BBC Radio 5-Live, on 26 September 2011, was the very first to be presented from Media City.

His passion, insight and knowledge of sport was regularly called on as sports presenter on BBC1 North West Tonight and as host of the North West version of BBC 1’s regional football show, Late
Kick Off. Tony was also studio pundit on the first five series of BBC 1’s Inside Sport and has reported on culture for The One Show.

Today, you’ll find Tony Monday-Thursday 4pm on BBC Radio 5-Live, presenting a round-up of the day’s news, interviewing people at the centre of those stories and of course, reporting on the latest happenings in sport.

Ruth Connor, Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire commented “Tony is such a passionate advocate of Lancashire and though his career has taken him away from his beloved county from time to time, he has thankfully never stayed away for too long.

“We’re looking forward to hearing his favourite and most memorable experiences of a long and varied career in the media, and to sharing another unforgettable evening with over 500 of the most ardent and talented champions of Lancashire – our Lancashire Tourism Awards 2017 finalists and their supporters.”

Guests at the Lancashire Tourism Awards 2017 will also enjoy a superb Lancashire inspired four-course dinner, created by Twelve Event Management from Thornton, as well as live music provided by our Entertainment Sponsor DFC limited, of Leyland.

The event is supported by: University of Central Lancashire – Headline Sponsor, VisitBlackpool, Blackpool and the Fylde College, Creative-Council, DFC, Jones Harris Chartered Accountants, Heart FM, Huddle Media, Lancashire Business View, Lancashire Life, Lancashire Post, Links Signs & Graphics, Napthens, Nelson Town Council, Northcote at the Rovers, Northern Print Distribution, Peter Scott Printers, Quality in Tourism, RTP Creative and Total Foodservice.
