Unsung Hero Award 2026
This category is unique as it recognises an individual, working for a tourism business, who excels in their role and deserves to be applauded for their work and commitment to the industry.
The winner of this category and all the Lancashire Tourism Awards category winners will be announced at the awards event in February.
The 2026 finalists are as follows:
Peter Martland Baillie
Founder, Cedar Farm
Peter is the quiet force behind Cedar Farm’s transformation from a working pig farm into a thriving, creative, visitor destination. A lifelong grafter, Peter’s talents span architecture, engineering, design, and business, skills he’s applied tirelessly, often single-handedly, to build and grow Cedar Farm. From designing buildings at his drawing desk to laying bricks, plumbing, and wiring, Peter has shaped every corner of the site. His creative spirit shines through in every detail, from handmade light fittings to repurposed materials in The Barn. Despite physical tolls and limited recognition, Peter’s dedication has never wavered.
With the support of his wife and daughters, Peter has nurtured Cedar Farm into a community of 33 businesses, all benefiting from his vision, craftsmanship, and care. He’s not just the founder, he’s the architect, builder, and heartbeat of the place. Cedar Farm is his life’s work, and its success is testament to Peter’s extraordinary talent and unwavering commitment. His story is one of quiet brilliance, resilience, and love, without doubt, the ‘Unsung Hero’ of Cedar Farm.

Kate Pollard
Marketing & Events Manager, Affinity Lancashire
Since joining in July 2022, Kate has brought energy, creativity, and strategic thinking to her role. Transitioning from teaching and grassroots marketing, she quickly adapted to the retail environment, building strong relationships with retailers, event providers, and the local community. Kate recognised and tackled the challenges facing the centre by expanding a vibrant free events programme, which has significantly boosted footfall and transformed public opinion of the destination. Her introduction of Artisan Street in 2023 was a standout success, with 2024’s summer events driving a 23% increase in visitors. She now oversees its monthly delivery via an external events company.
Kate’s initiatives, including the Love Affinity loyalty scheme, Bus 2 Save campaign, and partnerships with Fleetwood Market and Wyre Council, have driven impressive results, including a 170% rise in coach visits. Her social media strategy has also delivered remarkable growth, with Facebook reach up 75.7% and video views up 221.3%. Often behind the scenes, this ‘unsung hero’ is praised by retailers for her passion, dedication, and impact. Kate has not only elevated the centre’s profile but created a welcoming, inclusive space for visitors and shoppers that continues to thrive under her leadership.
